Get Your Company Name Changed within 48 Hours
A company can start using its new name once Companies House has registered it and issued a Certificate of Incorporation on Change of Name.
Online filings are typically processed within 24-48 hours. Postal applications may take longer. A same-day service is available for an additional fee if the application is received by 3 pm on a working day.
A company can change its name either by passing a special resolution or by following provisions in its articles of association. A special resolution requires at least 75% approval from shareholders.
To change a company’s name by special resolution, you must complete and submit Form NM01 to Companies House. If the change is made by other means permitted by the company’s articles of association, Form NM04 is used.
After a name change, it’s essential to update various records and inform relevant parties, including:
- Company stationery, signage, and website
- HMRC for tax purposes
- Banks and financial institutions
- Customers and suppliers
- Insurance providers
This ensures consistency and compliance across all aspects of the business.
The fee for changing a company’s name is £20 when filed online or £83 for the same-day service. Postal applications cost £30.
